A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

I had never heard of Japan's suicide  forest, even when I lived there in the 80's and passed within a few miles of it a couple of times.
Last fall I watched one movie that was set there and found it to be a marvelously creepy setting, and when I heard that there was a big-budget film being made about the locale, I knew I would want to see it.
Natalie Dormer (THE TUDORS, GAME OF THRONES) stars as an American named Sara who goes to Japan to look for her twin sister Jessa, who vanished in Japan's infamous "Sea of Trees" - the haunted plot of woods at the foot of Mt. Fuji where a hundred or so people a year go to kill themselves.  She finds tantalizing clues that her sister may still be alive, so guided by an Australian magazine reporter and a Japanese ranger, she sets off into the forest looking for Jessa.  But all is not as it seems in the Suicide Forest, and the things you see may be real . . . or not.
Thoroughly enjoyable creep-fest, filmed on location in the Forest itself.  Definitely worth the rental.  4/5

For what ever reason, they were not allowed to film in the forest, filming actually took place in Serbia.

Interesting.  I know that the Natalie Dormer did visit the real forest during the production (research maybe?) or perhaps they filmed some stock footage from outside the forest in Japan.
