Bogie is the man-I enjoy all his films-even the bad ones-!
!.The AFRICAN QUEEN (1951) This is a really BAD movie-Its stupid and outlandish-but just because Bogie is in it-its great.
2.the MALTESE FALCON (1941) This is NOT a bad movie-its one of the best movies I have ever seen-and what a cast! Maybe the most perfect movie ever made.
3.CASABLANCA (1942) their aint much I can say about this that aint been sed-I dont think its a good as the Falcon.
4.HIGH SIERRA (1941) Bogey as a gangster-always good combo.
5.DARK PASSAGE (1947) What Bogie does with only his eyes! He can act threw bandages! It reminds me of a story in Eerie 1971 Fearbook-drawn by Steve Ditko. Called FLY-yeah-thats a really obscure reference-ignore me-I'm an old geek. Bluesad
alright-yer thoughts?

He was outstanding!

I'd like to add The Big Sleep and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre to those films he's been in that are already listed.

Yes sir! He was like Lugosi-Vincent Price-Peter Lorre,Jimmy Cagney-Some actors just make bad movies great. George Raft-Who I think is a very 2 dimensional shmuck-turned down the role of Sam Spade in  the MALTESE FALCON-Im glad he did-Bogie -as I sed-IS THE MAN

Those are the 'big three' Bogart movies for me as well.  Thumbup

"The Caine Mutiny" is another classic. You hate his guts one scene, you find him pitiful and damaged in the next one.

IN A LONELY PLACE with GLORIA GRAHAME is very interesting.  People don't talk about that one much.

Bela, it's interesting that you knock THE AFRICAN QUEEN... It's not "a really BAD movie..."  It was also directed by JOHN HUSTON (like THE MALTESE FALCON)...

That's the one where Bogey plays am alcoholic wrioter, right? IIRC he said it was the role that most resembled his real personality.

So many good films. So hard to reduce the list to just 3, so let me choose 3 of his more odd roles.

The Return of Doctor X (1939)
Bogie stars as a vampire.

Virginia City (1940)
Bogie stars as a Mexican bandit.

Across the Pacific (1942)
Not so much odd, but . . .?! almost a sequel to the "Maltese Falcon," as it stars . . .
Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, and Sydney Greenstreet and is . . .
directed by John Huston, except for the final scenes.

What I like about it, is that it stars almost every Asian actor in Hollywood at that time, including . . .
Victor Sen Yung -- Lee Tung Foo -- Richard Loo -- Keye Luke -- Kam Tung -- Philip Ahn -- Paul Fung -- Beal Wong -- Spencer Chan -- and Rudy Robles.

Bogie. What an actor. There'll ne'er be another one like him, and he will be missed.
