A Virginia man has found
that out the hard way.
When someone in Colorado mailed a two-pound parcel of marijuana to a Waynesboro man, the package's street address was wrong. Waynesboro police intercepted the contraband and then became aware of the intended recipient --who in the meantime was "desperately trying to claim his pot-laden parcel from the person to whom it was mistakenly delivered," according to a statement from Sgt. Brian Edwards of the Waynesboro Police Dept.
Sgt. Edwards said the police had the parcel in their hands on June 15, and on June 18, police organized a sting operation to catch the intended recipient as he tried to collect the misdirected package from the accidental recipient. Shortly after arrival to pick up his marijuana, he surrendered without incident to the officers who were waiting for him.
Dakota Allen Dewitt, 24, faces a charge of possession of marijuana (more than ½ oz less than 5 lbs) with the intent to distribute.
