Dig it-BreelRoyalty reminded me of one of my favorite movies-and its poetic content!

The Fairies

by

William Allingham

Up the airy mountain
Down the rushy glen,
We dare n't go a-hunting,
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather.
Down along the rocky shore
Some make their home,
They live on crispy pancakes
Of yellow tide-foam;
Some in the reeds
Of the black mountain-lake,
With frogs for their watch-dogs,
All night awake.
High on the hill-top
The old King sits;
He is now so old and gray
He's nigh lost his wits.
With a bridge of white mist
Columbkill he crosses,
On his stately journeys
From Slieveleague to Rosses;
Or going up with music,
On cold starry nights,
To sup with the Queen,
Of the gay Northern Lights.
They stole little Bridget
For seven years long;
When she came down again
Her friends were all gone.
They took her lightly back
Between the night and morrow;
They thought she was fast asleep,
But she was dead with sorrow.
They have kept her ever since
Deep within the lake,
On a bed of flag leaves,
Watching till she wake.
By the craggy hill-side,
Through the mosses bare,
They have planted thorn trees
For pleasure here and there.
Is any man so daring
As dig them up in spite?
He shall find the thornies set
In his bed at night.
Up the airy mountain
Down the rushy glen,
We dare n't go a-hunting,
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather.

That's a great movie. I saw "don't open the door" a while ago it's not as good.

I agree-S.F.Brownrigg hit gold only that one time-but KEEP MY GRAVE OPEN (1976) is spooky too!

I first saw Don't look in the basement when I was a teenager and always remembered the scene where the guy starts to get undressed with the nymphomaniac girl then points and laughs at her when she takes her top off.

Its a really creepy movie.
The music helps too-so downbeat.
I love it.

It is-one of my favorite films-from ANY genre-from the 70's.

I wasn't a particularly big fan of this.. its candy bar budget and snail pace really hurt it in places.  Plus, the titular basement doesn't really figure into the plot until almost the end.  A couple decent gore bits were okay though (especially the spindle in the eye), and Sam and the young nurse displayed capable acting chops, and the daffy old patient was worth a chuckle.  I may have enjoyed it more if I saw it back in the day (I was way too young to see it back then).

DLITB is one of my fave horror movies EVER. The senile old lady was probably my fave character as well. Ever notice how to phone guy say "she ain't got no tounge" then he says "boy lady I hope that isn't catchy". Pretty funny. So may awesome quotes - "Red strawberries are the color of blood". AWESOME! I loved Don't Open the Door pretty much as I like DLITB. Keep My Grave Open was a bit of a letdouwn. Did'nt grab me the way the other two did. Too bad Brownwigg didn't make any more movies ater that. He was a great director.

  I talked to Rosie Holotik a couple years ago by phone, and thanked her for her work in DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT, ENCOUNTER WITH THE UNKNOWN, and HORROR HIGH.

If it's true what they say, that GOD created us in His image, then why should we not love creating, and why should we not continue to do so, as carefully and ethically as we can, on whatever scale we're capable of?

     The choice is simple; refuse to create, and refuse to grow, or build, with care and love.

Always loved the ending.
Me too!
I laughed myself silly seeing the cast names shown at the end along with their corpses!  Followed by the old bat saying (before her tongue-ectomy) "Get out!  Get out!  And never, never come back!", followed by thunder and the "Rated R" card.

I have this on one of those 50 packers - some truly wretched '70s Horror... I bought the set because it is chock full of sh!t like MESSIAH OF EVIL (aka DEAD PEOPLE) CATHY'S CURSE... HOUSE OF SEVEN CORPSES (maybe)...  SILENT NIGHT BLOODY NIGHT... that PATRICK O'NEAL murder scene is horrifying...

I still maintain that Cathy's Curse is an allegory for the weirdness of puberty. Love the movie.

Don't Look in the Basement is a movie I have watched at least 10 times. It is one of my favorites, just under Blood Mania which is my all-time favorite.

Brownrigg's son made a sequel to DLITB, and it is pretty good.

That is cool!

I had spoke with Gary Kent-of SATAN'S SADISTS and ONE MILLION AC/DC infamy among others on facebook a couple weeks ago and asked him about the mysterious DEVIL WOLF OF SHADOW MOUNTAIN-

"Hi! I know you dont know me-but Im a big fan of yours! I loved SATANS SADISTS and DRACULA VS FRANKENSTEIN-I'm looking for info on the DEVIL WOLF OF SHADOW MOUNTAIN and the INSANE DEMONS OF TOPANGA CANYON-any info would be swell-thanx alot!"

his answer-"Ronny...devil wolf was never actually made into a full film...have no idea where the footage ended up...sorry. Thanks for the shout out re: my work...stay tuned..I'm still at it!!...🙂"
