Power Rangers
Small | Large

So, this film's been in the works for a few years.  We finally get some footage.  Looks...surprisingly good.  Cast includes Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon and SNL alum Bill Hader as the voice of Alpha 5.  Just can't wait for the footage of the giant megazord.

Looks kinda like a remake of Chronicle (2012) until Rita Repulsa shows up...

Yep.  Looks competently made but uninspired.

Side note of trivia, upon looking up Chronicle, it was written by Max Landis.  Max also wrote the early draft of this Rangers project.  Not sure what they kept of his script for this, but I think he's got a credit on it.

In a weird way, I'm half expecting the next teaser to look like a remake of I Am Number Four (2011)

It's worth a watch, I liked it.  It's found footage, but uses a few gimmicks to good effect - like the characters have telekinesis, so they use that to float the camera around, meaning it isn't so shaky.  There's also decent character development.  Probably the best script of the Max Landis films I've seen (American Ultra was alright, but not as good) - I do like Max Landis, actually.  Loved his appearance on Best of the Worst.  Has another bizarre celeb cameo at the end with him as well.

I saw Ultra.  That wasn't too bad.

He's all over Twitter talking about how he wrote this script, as he was a fan of the show, they fired him cause it was too much like the show, then hired a guy to essentially rework Chronicle as a Rangers film.  Says they should've just told him that was the direction to go in. BounceGiggle

Either way, I'm gonna watch Chronicle and eventually the Rangers film.  Big fan of that series myself.

Yeah, it seems like it may end up being worth a watch.  Really hope so, I have fond memories of the series.  The movie though, I mean, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Bill Hader as Alpha and Elizabeth Banks as Rita are all actually quite interesting choices, so I'm hoping it comes together.

As an aside, looking at the rangers they're all unknown to me - except Ludi Lin, who was a minor character I don't even remember in Monster Hunt.  But then again, I don't think I could name ANY actors young enough.  I'm too old, it seems.   Smile

They wanted to go with younger unknowns that could sign on for a few movies with a few established older people to play smaller roles.

The only 'ranger' actor I know here is the Yellow one, Becky G, who's a singer.  I've heard some of her songs.

Cranston was an interesting choice.  But, it's kind of full circle for him.  His earlier career back in the late '80s and early '90s before Malcolm in The Middle was doing voiceover work for Saban, and voiced several monsters on the original Rangers series. They even gave the Blue Ranger the surname Cranston as a tribute of sorts to him. BounceGiggle

Looking forward to it. It looks just as "trashy" as I remember the show to be.

The movie looks fun and all.

But...(And I'm likely to sound either old or intolerant) can't they make a movie like this WITHOUT a freaking hip-hop/rap tune being associated with it? Instead of catering to the target audience, try exposing them to powerful orchestrated music.

I dunno. I'm beginning to think I've overstayed my time on this planet. Everything seems to make me cringe.

Oh my god, that made me laugh loud enough that I probably woke my neighbors. Yes, a full-fledged, hard R-rated, gore version of the Power Rangers would be awesome.
