not the 'worst'...the baddest. in badmovie terms.  TeddyR

not a Bond expert in any way, but I think I've seen all of them except the most recent one, and about 2 thirds of them I've seen more than once.

I think some of the Roger Moore ones are so cheesy they could qualify as legit badmovies.

THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN could be a contender. I'm sure there's a scene where a car jumps over a bit of water and a comedy 'woooooop---weeeooowww' sound plays. imagine that happening  in one of the Daniel Craig ones, lol. there's also a really naff kung fu sequence which ends with Roger Moore doing this finishing move on some guy by prodding him on the head, after 2 random girl ninjas did all the hard work

I think OCTOp***y and MOONRAKER might be even more ludicrous but I haven't seen them in ages.

MOONRAKER (1979) is pretty cheezy-and Richard Kiel's Jaws romance with the Pippi Longstocking chick is goofy. Plus Jaws getting into Wile E. Coyote type situations . I seen it in a small theater in upstate NY with my brother Mike-so it has a place in my heart.  Thumbup

A View to A Kill is IMO a bad Bond film which features a heroine who is almost helpless and just seems to scream all the time.

I think almost every Roger Moore James Bond film (with the exception of For Your Eye's Only) - is very bad :)

I think Live and Let Die and Moonraker is high on the list as baddest bond film :)

I have a hard time enjoying a Daniel Craig bond. I'm not sure, I didn't like Casino Royale (2006). The story (plot) seemed too campy for the seriousness, and something about Craig... he seemed too hardcore.

On the other hand, I found Pierce Brosnan a disappointing bond. I do recall all the hype in the Remington Steele years, I really expected more bangs when he finally became bond.

I'm torn with Timothy Dalton (I do think a strong negative hit on him was when a lot of bond fans wanted Pierce Brosnan) and that first bond movie The Living Daylights (1987) was boring... Then his second movie Licence to Kill (1989), well, I would consider one of the top 10 best bond films.

As for the most baddest bond movie...

hah thanks, I was trying to remember what Bond these 2 were in when I made the thread. they are as camp as it gets

kind of agree with you re: Daniel Craig. he's more like a bond villain to me than a Bond. he doesn't have that 'charm' imo...

Awesome :)

Most of Sean Connery's bond movies happen in the 1960's and the flamboyant gay assassins were something that's not often seen in the 1960's. So I can see how it's hard to pinpoint.

Sean Connery wasn't supposed to play James Bond after George Lazenby. But 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' didn't do well in America box office and Bond producers came running after Sean Connery.

As for George Lezenby. I don't think he was a bad Bond, but I do think (as a bond fan) that the ending of On Her Majesty's Secret Service killed the fun of a Bond story. I do think it sort of moved people away from the box office (not George Lezenby as some would believe). I also believe On Her Majesty's Secret Service was slightly ahead of it's time, because the ending would had been an awesome setup - similar to Empire Strikes Back. Therefore On Her Majesty's Secret Service 'Part 2' would be an awesome Bond revenge flick [Sorry I don't want to spoil the ending of On Her Majesty's Secret Service if you had not see it - so I'm generalizing]

But they had not made a On Her Majesty's Secret Service part 2 [as far as I know because I only watched one Daniel Craig Bond movie]. I do think to win back the 'American' fans of Bond, humor was added to the story. This is why most of the campy Bond movies are from the 1970's and some in the 1980's (especially with aging Roger Moore)

I do recall, years ago, I was watching a Bond special. They were saying that they needed to add humor to Roger Moore because he didn't seem believable as Bond. I don't think it's true. Because Diamonds Are Forever (1971) was not a Roger Moore Bond film and the humor was equally strong in that movie too. (this is why I believe the humor was inserted because of the failed success of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

For Your Eyes Only seemed to be the only exception because the story seemed more serous (even a little more realistic then a normal Bond film).

I do agree Daniel Craig is missing that charm. But I'd always picture Bond was a guy that likes to get laid and only picked up what seemed interesting to women. Like knowing what is a good wine. The gadgets seemed especially important to him when it comes to scoring with chicks. It seemed to annoy Q but you get the feeling that Bond is a boy in a toy store. Bond also has a horseshoe up his ass. And most men fantasize to be Bond because his character is easy to relate.

Craig seemed all business and it's hard to relate.

I would think Vin Diesel would make a better Bond character then Craig.

Interesting, Kingsman: The Secret Service, seemed like a better Bond movie. If you had not seen Kingsman, you should check it out :)

There have been bigger film phenomena (Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.) but there probably never has been a longer lasting film phenomena than the Bond film phenomena. There has been at least one Bond theatrical film every decade since the '60's, and the original books written by Ian Fleming date from the '50's.

We think of Sean Connery as being the 1st actor to play Bond, but actually he was the 1st actor to play Bond on the big screen. The 1st actor to play Bond was American Barry Nelson on an episode of the TV series Climax in 1954 with the great Peter Lorre as the villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. Which episode I had the good fortune to see, when it was later broadcast on TV,

My favorite Bond actors were Sean Connery and Roger Moore, and my favorite of their films are . . .

Sean Connery
1st Gold finger
2nd You Only Live Twice
3rd Thunder ball

Roger Moore
1st The Spy Who Loved Me
2nd Octo p***y
3rd Live and Let Die -- The Man with the Golden Gun (tie)

Other actors playing Bond have been . . .

George Lazenby
who I can barely remember in his only Bond film.

Timothy Dalton
who I seem to like better than most Bond fans.

Pierce Brosnan
who is actually one of the few actors I'd buy a ticket to see in a film. Yet there is not one of his Bond films that I liked.

Daniel Craig
who I seem to dislike more than most Bond fans, and whose only Bond film I liked was Casino Royale.

But, we were talking about "bad" Bond films. And there is no "worst" Bond film, as I define the term, than Casino Royale from 1967. A film that is too long by half. Yet (IMHO) a Bond film that had the best . . .

Music
From the songs The Look of Love and Have No Fear, Bond Is Here to the instrumental theme Casino Royale.

Cast
With David Niven as James Bond and a cast that included everyone from Peter Sellers to Terence Cooper.

Action
Look to your right and William Holden is kicking the crap out of the villains. Look to your left and a tribe of Native Americans is doing a war dance, while the casino burns. Look up and the French Foreign Legionnaires are parachuting in. Look down and coin flipping George Raft says: "I think I just shot myself" and drops dead. Look in the back and David Prowse as Frankenstein's Monster shambles through. WTF! Who cares. I just found it too much fun.

And we shall see what we shall see.

yeah I think of the Sean Connery installments as more hard-man and 'serious' than the Roger Moore ones, although clearly that isn't strictly true. in fact NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN (which I do count as a bona fide Bond movie even though some dont) is very corny in places. I think I'm right in saying it ends with Connery breaking the 4th wall and blatantly winking at the camera? might be wrong about that but the whole movie is fairly tongue in cheek anyway

Interesting, Kingsman: The Secret Service, seemed like a better Bond movie. If you had not seen Kingsman, you should check it out :)
I haven't, thanks for the rec  Thumbup

On Her Majesty's Secret Service nearly put me to sleep

Die Another Die was too puntastic , crappy and product plugs that it caused the damn franchise to be rebooted with Casino Royale and it takes me about 5 hours to finish it each time I watch it on DVD

I don't have any love for him as his first film as an actor was the anti-South African barf fest The Power Of OneTongueOut

As a kid, Moonraker was the only one I actually saw in the theater, as well as repeatedly on cable.
At the time, I found it enjoyable, not only for the reasons already mentioned, but also for it's use of more classic gadgets such as the poison darts & pen, as well as the way it pokes fun at the popular sci-fi du jour.

As far as cheesiness goes, my personal favorite would have to be Live And Let Die.
This has to be the most '70s of the whole series, with our hero looking totally outclassed by men in nicer suits. There are times when Bond looks justifiably embarrassed every time he realizes he's on the wrong side of a blacksploitation movie minus the foul language. And of course, the styles & trends, such as when he peels off his black jumpsuit to reveal a tacky plaid sportcoat & slacks, or how uncomfortable he looks while trying to enjoy the luxury of a classic bath tray in an uncomfortably shallow modern bathtub.
And how many times has The 007 been called "Jim"?

It's interesting to watch all the Bond movies from the first to the most recent, and see their development, as well as their influences of the time.

I loooooved The Man With The Golden Gun as a kid, and it still has a lot of charm for me; having said that, I watched it again recently and realized just how hokey it is.  It was not until decades later that I noticed how it is a take in on the kung fu craze of the time.  Same with Live and Let Die - fun as heck, but it's a blaxploitation film with super hokey dialogue.  And as a kid, it never occurred to me that the two assassins were gay.

Running counter to some opinions here, I very much enjoyed Daniel Craig's take on James Bond.  He brings an extreme physicality and intensity to the role that was lacking from his predecessors.  His character is almost completely goal-directed, and the womanizing was mainly a vehicle for the mission, or a distraction during downtime from the mission.  Some people complained that it was more Jason Bourne than James Bond; to an extent, I agree.  But it was also an excellent way to bring the Bond character into the current age.
