I understand how Trevor feels.  Our world is spinning faster and faster, and the violence is more and more apparent.  Social media has made us all witnesses.  It can be soul crushing.

Agreed: I have actually lost interest in buying the newspaper or even watching the news on TV: just becoming too scary.  Bluesad

Agreed. When I was a kid, you only heard about major violent events on the evening national news and the occasional crime from local news. Every single day I open the internet, even when trying very hard to avoid it, I am pummeled by a constant stream of hate, violence, vitriol, and real-life horrors. It's making life seem pointless and not worth living.

I wish I knew how to ignore the world, yet still be able to function within it.

You are not alone, Brother Trevor, in how you feel.

Very true words indeed.

Got rid of my smartphone yesterday so *sigh* no more going to www.nakedandninety.com or www.filthygrannies.net anymore.  Wink

Seriously though, I just wanted to prove to myself that, this site aside, the Internet, FB etc are not for me anymore.

Lagomorphs: menace or underutilized resource?

While I can understand your decision, I can't say I like it. I will miss seeing you on Facebook, where I admittedly spend too much time. Your posts there usually made me smile. I don't come here quite as often as I used to for some reason, so the few people from here that I took with me to FB tend to remind me of some of the happy times way back when Andrew, Scott, Susan, and several others were very active here. 2016 was indeed a rough year, and 2017 for me is starting off even worse. Your kindness and silliness are bright spots to me. I will stop in here more often just to check on you.

Im sure it has improved your life in some ways. Disconnecting is a very healthy thing. One thing that changed me was turning off the television, though i still watch movies (usually bad ones.) It has put me on a different wave length than most people. i cant have "normal" conversations with people now, because I have no idea whats going on with the latest celebrity bs. I look at most people as mindless pop culture zombies now. Not that im superior in some way,  its just that im not under "the spell" anymore. Has leaving the internet had any affect on you socially? Oh, dont worry, ill look after the filthy grannies for you.

I'm not really a social person: my idea of 'going out' is to have a decent meal about once a week and then a movie - my work is my life.  Smile

I have the same problem. I haven't had cable in nearly 10 years. No clue what's on anymore, unless it crosses my attention elsewhere. I'll talk to people, and they make passing references to things that I don't understand. When asked for more information, most people look at me like an alien or something. As a result, I try to avoid discussing things which will cause the odd looks. Yeah, I don't talk to a lot of people anymore.

Don't leave Facebook! Where will you get accurate news about world events?
