So, it's been a loooong time coming, but after various delays and false starts, I finally managed to get a sleep study done at a local hospital.  I had had one done about a decade back, but I guess they wanted a new one before they'd proceed with trying to treat my sleep apnea.

Anyway, I came in, the lab tech hooked up all kinds of wires to my face, arms, scalps, legs, etc (I wonder if somewhere else they've got more advanced tech and they could of just slapped one item on me to measure everything? Just curious...) I laid down and she told me that they'd start the test without the mask and see how I did, and if things "Looked bad" they'd put the mask on and measure me from there.  Well, two hours later, the tech woke me up and was like, "Uh, yeah, we're gonna put the mask on you..."  I said, "Oh, was it that bad?"  "Well, you stopped breathing a few times."

They put the mask on me, starting at low pressure then building up.  Now, for the uninitiated, a CPAP mask basically covers your whole face and is connected to a length of tubing which is hooked to a machine which gives you a steady stream of air.
This keeps you from snoring and, in extreme cases, also keeps you breathing.  The low pressure didn't do much, but once it started to jack up, ahhh.. I drifted off to slumber land.  Having that baby on my face at high blast felt like saying hello to an old friend.  I woke up once again around five to use the bathroom, and then just kind of a laid there for the last hour.

Long story short, I've got apnea, which I kind of figured.  They're going to get in touch with my regular doctor and hopefully we'll be able to get a new machine soon.  (My old one is broke, and I was told by the local medical supply group they couldn't fix it because it's obsolete.)

Sooner the better, as I think my sleeping problems have gotten worse lately.  Been feeling like a walking zombie the past few weeks.  Hopefully we'll get this resolved soon, I'll start feeling more awake, and then I can tackle other probs I'm dealing with more readily.  :)

I can identify!
Half way through my sleep study, they did the same thing. They said my longest breathing stoppage, was 94 seconds. Yeesh!
I'd been afraid I'd fall asleep while driving, and that was not acceptable!
With the mask...I finished the night felling better than I had for months. That proved my need for the machine. The mast is annoying, but it beats waking up feeling like a bowl of porridge. Get a good system, and take care of it. Your brain will love you for it.
