The upcoming eighth Saw film will now officially be titled Jigsaw, Lionsgate has announced.

The horror movie was previously referred to as Saw: Legacy, but is now named after the series' main villain, who was played by Tobin Bell both before and after the character's death (in the later movies, thanks to many flashbacks).

The latest installment in Lionsgate's long-running horror franchise stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville) and Hannah Anderson (Reign).

Jigsaw will be directed by Peter and Michael Spierig (the brothers who helmed Daybreakers and Predestination). Sorority Row writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger penned the script.

Jigsaw is currently in post-production and is slated for release in U.S. theaters on October 27, 2017. An international release is planned for sometime in early 2018.

so I struggled with where to put this....I really liked the first 5, but detest the last 2 of the Saw franchise

for that reason I'm on the fence about whether to see this or not

the 7th installment was an unholy mess, and this film doesn't really need to exist

I SAW the first thru fifth installments, ( maybe fourth, i cant remember, they started blurring together). I lost interest because they became torture porn to me. Ive always liked violent movies but between this and the final destination series, i lost interest. Ive always liked jigsaws character though.

I liked the first Saw film, because it did feel different then a lot of other horror movie I had seen.  Saw 2 was ok, the worst thing I could say about it is that it just felt like what a sequel to Saw woud have been.

After Saw 3 I really began to lose interest and really didn't watch any of the others, save for a few minutes here and there when they'd be on tv-and I think I left it at the right time.  The movies seemed to think they were a  lot smarter then they thought they were, plus there was this weird timeline which seemed to imply that the entire Saw series took place over years, but only a single weekend at once.
