Testing...testing....
Good day, ladies and gentlemen, a long overdue pleasure, 'tis to honor lester here tonight at the Saint Gertruda the Blessed Virgin of Fesselsberg Knights of Columbus Hall.
(Wait for applause.)
Thank you for coming. Please take a seat.
(Clear throat.)
lester, you are a true stalwart of our humble online hangout, a regular whose irregular views add much-needed color to our beloved green and slate forum.
(If no laughter, continue.)
You also seem to be a pretty decent sort of fellow, especially considering you live in Massachusetts, I believe, and I have met people from Massachusetts.
(Pause for effect, stare knowingly and nod head.)
If Trevor---
(Wave to Trevor seated at House Right)
----is the heart of BMDO, our boy lester1/2jr is this site's pulsing brain in a mad scientist's liquid-filled bell jar, thinking, constantly thinking, presenting ideas that, though they may not always be agreed with----
(Point soberly at crowd)
---are well-thought out and carefully reasoned, then presented with passionate courage and obvious intelligence. lester has given me more to ponder than he likely knows, and I find we are often agreeing these days.
(Wait two beats, look toward Father Brown and add:)
Father, absolve me if I'm lying.
(Halt for laughter.)
I'm frightened, too!
lester...
(Wait for applause.)
....lester, makes sure Amazon.com gets its packages through in the face of weather, dogs, and scabby Cylon drones
----any fellow nerds with me tonight? YEAH!----
plus he skates, defying the potential of many, many injuries to that teeming brain of his. But he cares not if his skull is fractured! Nay, he continues up and down those empty pools, his skill no doubt dazzling any who see it, inspiring skaters unborn when first he stepped on a board long, long, LONG ago!
(Wait for laugther and applause.)
Be it pondering the current state of American politics, or dissing Jesus in a thunderstorm----
(Halt for boos from Ladies' Auxillary)
----in a world of unthinking sheep and lemmings, lester makes time to decide how he feels about the issues, and defends his points of view with all the dogged bravery of those martyred sons of Texas who crossed the line in the sand at the Alamo to hold a strategically insignificant adobe mission in the middle of San Antonio de Bexar against a pre-dawn sneak attack, and who were then nobly bludgeoned and bayoneted soon after, their fallen forms stacked like cordwood in the long barracks and chapel, only to be dragged into the air once more, buckskins flaring in the southerly breezes of the March prairie, and set alight by the self-titled Napoleon of the Americas, the Saddam of Santa Fe, Santa Ana, himself, God love 'em!
(Wait for boos and cries of outrage, or if observation falls flat due to too many Yankees, add:)
Sorry, folks, I'm an honorary Texan, and the Lone Star patriotism had to go somewhere.
(Wait for grudging chuckles, pretend to mop brow.)
As that great Catholic convert G.K. Chesterton wheezingly reminded us, only days before he died of congestive heart disease and was too obese for undertakers to haul him down his own bedroom stairs----
(Dodge any thrown fruit)
---- "Only that which is living can swim against the stream." And you, lester, are indeed a vital, living being!!!!!!
So tonight I say, keep it up, my fellow defender of the Assad regime, keep it up!!!!!
Let's hear it for lester1/2jr.!!!!!!!
(In the midst of standing ovation close by asking:)
Now how about a piece of Mrs. Murphy's lemonade cake, huh???
