And, do you know what? After awhile, it adds up.

From 1993 to the 1st half of 2017, there are 30 films that earned o'er a billion $ at the box office, and the 6 major Hollywood film studios that produced them.

(International box office)
(Unadjusted for inflation)
(If not a producer, but a distributor be, then so noted.)
(Not all studios are created equal, so from least to most, and within each studio from most to least.)

Columbia
Sky fall

I have to laugh, when I see or hear someone say, filmgoers want more originality, when in truth, filmgoers do not want more originality, they want something they have seen ere.

Of all the films listed (IMHO) there were only 4 films that can be described as being more or less original.

Avatar
Which will spin off in . . .
2020 Avatar 2
2021 Avatar 3
2024 Avatar 4
2025 Avatar 5

Jurassic Park, which spun off . . .
sequels in 1997 and 2001 and Jurassic World in 2015, which spins off its own sequel in 2018.

Frozen, which will spin off a sequel in 2019.

And Zootopia, which has yet to spin off a sequel, but do not worry, it will.

Next time: something old, but also something new.

I just want to say we finally seem to be getting closer to the sequels for Avatar. The producer of the sequels brought 7 of his actors to Pandora - the World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom to immerse them in that world before the filming began. Nothing unusual about that. What I did find unusual was the age of the actors. The oldest being 17 and the youngest being 7. Of course, that may not be so strange if you want to use the same actors thru all 4 sequels. With the 1st sequel not being released to 2020, the actors would then be between 20 and 10, and with the last sequel being in 2025, the actors would only be between 25 and 15.

And we will see what we will see.
