Are there any other podcasters out there who use Skype and a recording app? Our group was using Skype and ifree-skype recorder, which worked well enough, but recently it's no longer working (since patch updates). Our group lost an entire show recording (one of our best friggin episodes, to boot) due to it suddenly not recording correctly (our two other backup recorders on different lap tops had the same issue). Very frustrating.

So, I've been researching other Skype recording options, but was wondering if others had any recommendations or suggestions to avoid? I tested Pamela, which works better with Skype (supposedly), but the recording sounds crappy/worse than ifree Skype recorder used to. It (Pamela) costs for the full blown version, which I wouldn't mind paying if it didn't suck.

My only other option is to invest in a digital recorder, mics, and possibly a mixer. Not sure I want to put all that into a small little schlock podcast, at least at this time. I am hoping to find a happy medium.

Any other podcasters out there? What methods do you use?

I prefer a Zoom recorder that has external inputs, then edit it with Audacity freeware.
Most of my music & radio friends prefer Zoom, whereas most of my film friends prefer Tascam.

Over the years, I've grown to prefer Audio-Technica microphones because they tend to sound warmer, but I've gotten some pretty good results out of a $15 Philips PH62080 karaoke mic, and REVENGE IN THE AFTERNOON was recently dubbed with inexpensive Neewer NW-700 studio mics.

Hope this give you some ideas. :)

Yes, indeed it does. I have used the google, based on your suggestion and yes, the zoom looks to be about what I had in mind if I did in fact go this route (both in ability and in price range). I'm betting that, in addition to a mixer, and Audacity/WinLAME, I'll be able to have better recording control.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just for fun, here's some of the stuff I take with me to film shoots.
