Ya know-The company that gave us,Godzilla,Rodan,Ghidorah, and Yog-Monster from Space?

This is a hard one for me-there are so many great Toho movies out there-up to the dam present! Not even Universal and Hammer had a series of great monster films that lasted as long!
1.GODZILLA (1954) NOT the one with Raymond Burr sticking his Anglo Saxon beak into the action!
2.GHIDORAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER (1964)
3.WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS (1966) I like the Gargantuas-and I like the groovy song! Devo covered this song,by the way!

Small | Large

4.DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (1968) Because it's got EVERY monster-and then some!

5..YOG-MONSTER FROM SPACE (1970) "Do not resist! You are powerless against me!"

Small | Large

6.GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER (1971) The first -and last-Godzilla hippie movie!
7.GODZILLA VS. MECHA GODZILLA (1974) Becuase it's Mecha Godzilla!
8.GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH (1991)  It's insane. Some bad-some good-"Take that you dinosaur!"
9.GODZILLA VS.SPACE GODZILLA (1994)
10. GODZILLA VS. DESTOROYA (1995)

Oh I like those films too but not as much as the older ones which were the ones I watched first... of the 90s ones, I like Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah & Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle for Earth the most. I also enjoyed the more recent run too...I actually own pretty much every Godzilla movie except the most recent one.

You've also got more to choose from in the Showa era of films.

I do like the Heisei Godzilla vs Mothra: Battle for the Earth more than the Godzilla vs the Thing  and Godzilla vs Biolante is one of my favorites, because it presents a pretty unique foe for the big G.

I also like how the Heisei era films keep Godzilla more as an anti-hero rather then a straight up hero.  In those films, they humans don't forget that he's still a danger to them.

Its been a while since I've watched a few of those films.  I'll need to go back and see if my opinions on any have changed.

1. GODZILLA (1954)
The original Japanese release of GODZILLA is stunning.  It's still scary.  I think TCM showed it this year... It was decades before I finally saw how great that film is without the American edit including the addition of RAYMOND BURR,  Lookingup , the BURR version is what I grew up with...  now that I've seen at least 10 times...

That's one... nine to go.

2. KING KONG ESCAPES (1967)  I confess, this is a truly BAD movie that I am eager to see again.  I remember laughing and laughing at this movie on TV Saturday or Sunday afternoons decades ago, loving the horrible teeth villain getting squished spitting up blood   TeddyR  and the mechanical KONG robot.  "Yes, yes.  KONG's mine now..." silencer gunshots: dvoot  dvoot... (walk three steps get another angle) dvoot.  Poor old dopey dead islander.
BounceGiggle  One of my earliest BAD MOVIE memories.   Thumbup  Highly recommended.

3. MOTHRA (1961)  TOHO at its most wonderfully absurd.

Small | Large

4. WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS (1966)  This belongs on the list just for the song... and the lady who gets eaten...  TongueOut

5. SON OF GODZILLA (1967)  Who knew MONSTERS could be cute?  If you've seen SON OF KONG and loved it, you will love SON OF GODZILLA

DAM! I forgot about KING KONG ESCAPES! This is the only Toho monster-beyond YOG-that I saw in the theater! On Halloween 1972 they had a matinee at the Strand showing this! Only 25 cents for kids under 12! I was 10-so much fun!

I seen all the Toho monster movies-from 1954 untill '75-but I never saw VARAN THE UNBELIEVABLE (1962). I just could never get my hands on a copy. I never seen it on TV either.

This was on this morning.  I didn't watch it, but I did listen to it... it's awesome.  Still scary...

After that was RODAN (1957)... I cannot believe Rodan is 60 years old!!

On now is ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN (1958) but that's another topic...
