Now what were two grown men planning to do with that?
Apeler told officers that he was moving the pole because it was laying on the ground close to lanes of traffic.
The pole was valued at $2,500.
Officers did a pawn database search and learned that Apeler had 72 scrap metal-related transactions since January.
Haven't heard of someone stealing a light post before, but this stuff happens all the time. People will steal A/C units for the scrap metal; break into old houses to strip out the wiring, etc. The recent hurricane damage just offered a unique opportunity to be dishonest.
