So, yeah, awhile back we (as in, my mom) got a new dog she named Cody.  We've had it for, I dunno.. about a year now?  Maybe a little less, but mom is thinking of finding it a new home.  Why?  Because we just can't seem to get him to stop pooping and peeing on the floor.  I don't know what his problem is.  I'm guessing part of it (since, even when he goes outside he poops on the concrete) is that he doesn't associate soft grass with "This is where I should poop" like our other dog does.  Also, we're not sure, but maybe he does it because he's mad that mom leaves during the day and I'm watching him instead of her.  Now, I try to put him outside every hour (whether he wants to go or not) but even today, he pooped TWICE in two different areas of the house, even though he was only inside for about an hour.

Anyway, I just don't know what to do.  Our other dog knows how to ask to go outside just fine (although, I've never known a dog that would SNEEZE when he wants to go out, but still).  Granted, it might be because he's older and smarter, but I don't think Cody is dumb, he seems to understand way more than he lets on.  Today, I even picked up his poop, took him and the poop outside and throw it into the grass with him watching.  Dunno if that'll help or not, but I'm out of ideas here.

There were dogs in this house before, so mom theorized maybe they had some accidents in the areas where Cody likes to "go" so she washed the areas Cody would pee at with water and vinegar, hoping that would eliminate the smell.  That worked... for a few days. But, nothing seemed to last.

I don't know, I won't lie, I'm not that close to Cody (I mean, he's more mom's dog than mine) but I'd hate to have him possibly go to another home where they might not treat him as good, but like I said, I dunno what to do to try and help.

If anyone's got any ideas, feel free to chime in.

Sounds like you need to use a crate training regimen.

He's not trying to disobey, he just doesn't get it.
