QuoteAs a Kentuckian, it pains me to see people put cola in their bourbon (though many Kentuckians do so as well).
I didn't know you were from Kentucky.  Maybe I just never paid attention.  I'm from Tennessee myself.  Tradition states we are now rivals.   :twirl:

Seeing as how we're on a bad movie site, can Tennessee boast a director as bad as Kentucky's "pride," William Girdler?

I am torn between choosing coke or pepsi, but I prefer Coke.

On the weird side-I've run into deep south hillbillys who call every pop "coke". WTF is with that?

Gotta go with Dr Pepper.

Pacman000

Never thought of Dr. Pepper as a Cola; it's it's own unique flavor. No kola nut in it.

Most brands offer both a cola and a DP equilivant. Ah well.

Here in Texas, Dr. Pepper is the one soda that rules them all!
(Or, for us aging and pudgy types, Diet Dr. Pepper!)

I thought of you over the weekend when I saw cans of Dr Pepper in our local supermarket: ZAR16.00 per can!  :drink:

It's not just backwoods hillbillies; even large cities call soft drinks Coke. I think it's just Coca-Cola's brand prominence down south; like Kleenex or Xerox in other industries everywhere else.

I usually use the term "soft drink" or "soda." Most people I know call it "coke," tho I've heard "pop" was the popular term decades ago.

On a side note, does anyone still call it "Tonic Water?"

Tonic water is its own thing, once used to prevent malaria, now drank almost exclusively the mixer for gin and tonics. It's on every supermarket shelf.

In Lawton-it's POP. I never heard it called anything else. It's pop.
Of course Lawton is a very small backwoods town-and I've lived her my whole life, mostly.
I was born in NYC-but I was raised here.

Mountain Dew.

Growing up in the 80s, my mom and her family were Pepsi folk. I like Pepsi enough. Don't dislike it at all. But was never around Coke. Tried that and whatever Cokes Mt Dew equal is (Mello Yello?) But Mtn Dew always tasted best.

Coke for me.  I normally only drink Pepsi products if I'm thirsty and have no other choice. :teddyr:

Still on topic- what do you call it where your from? When I was in New York-it was soda. Here in Michigan most-including me- call it pop.
But the when we lived in Indiana in 1969-it was soda pop.

Oh and Rev-I agree-whiskey should only be drank straight. (Of course I drink it straight out of the bottle...)  :drink:
I live in Philly and it's called soda. People from outta town stop in places and ask for Pop, etc, and it's like "It's soda here, but what flavor."
