Moana is a film with a mediocre story. However the animation is absolutely gorgeous and must have been a nightmare to make. I'd like people to share the best animation they've seen. (Preferably not stop motion, as impressive as that can look)

It can be from anything. Movies, TV shows, anime, or even YouTube videos.

5 Centimeters Per Second. One of the most poignant and beautiful films I've ever seen.

Probably the "Night on Bald Mountain" sequence of Fantasia or the chase scene through the castle in The Thief and the Cobbler.

Or the 1st Fleischer Bros. Superman cartoon.

Ghost in the shell innocence did an incredible job of fusing conventional high quality animation and high grade CGI. Have a look at the scene that took the most rendering time to get done per frame.

Here's my favorite scene done as a tribute.

The Snowman from 1982.

Particularly the Walking in the Air segment.  It has this incredible sense of flying and movement to it.  Combine it with score, and you get one of the best but unfortunately not  talked about enogh Christmas specials of all time.

I love that this special has a colored pencil style that makes it feel more illustration than cartoon.

This is the best of all of Disney's Silly Symphony cartoons, beautifully drawn, and the music gets downright psychedelic:

For me it's kind of an off choice: the Fleischer Studios 'Popeye' shorts from the 1930s. Unlike most other cartoons these took place mainly in gritty, urban settings. They also featured some of the most beautiful and thoughtful animation ever created. People and items  have weight, throw shadows, and move perpesctively through the frame.

Here's a good example: 'A Dream Walking' with Popeye and Bluto trying to save a sleep-walking Olive Oyl, but predictable spend most of the time fighting.

015 A Dream Walking-Popeye The Sailor Man - Video Dailymotion

The way the beams subtly shift to show weight, the prespective animation as the elevators move up and down, the timing - and just watch as Popeye monkey bars throught the building and marvel at the work that went into the way the beams shift perpective with him.
