Red State, Heaven’s Gate, Insomnia (US version),  Vanilla Sky, Moonrise Kingdom, 2010: The Year We Make Contact,  The Godfather Part 3,  Death to Smoochy, A Simple Plan and Inside Llewelyn Davis

A friend of mine keeps recommending red state. Moonrise kingdom I'd not heard of  but an intriguing title. I agree totally on 2010.

Again, I'll give it a "weird" theme.

6. THE LOVE WITCH (2016) - Needs more love

I've heard nothing but good things about this. Need to see.

Howabout some great oldies?

1. the HITCH-HIKER (1953)

2. HE WALKED BY NIGHT (1948)- Lon Chaney Jr.'s the INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN  owes a lot to this movie, and WHITE HEAT as well.

2. KANSAS CITY CONFIDENTIAL (1952) Lee Van Cleef, Neville Brand AND Jack Elam!

3. DETOUR (1945)- Very downbeat noir. Best line-
"So when this drunk handed me a ten spot after a request, I couldn't get very excited. What was it I asked myself? A piece of paper crawling with germs. Couldn't buy anything I wanted."

4. the RED HOUSE (1947)

5. 5 MINUTES TO LIVE (1961) Johnny Cash as a psycho!

6. BEAT THE DEVIL (1953) with Bogey,Lorre and Robert Morley!

I'll start with these:

* STRAIGHT TIME (1978) - Dustin Hoffman gets released from prison on parole and finds that he just can't stay out of trouble. Co-starring Theresa Russell, Gary Busey, M. Emmett Walsh (who is excellent) and Gary Busey. Based on the novel "No Beast So Fierce" by ex-convict Eddie Bunker (who also had an acting career and appeared in RESERVOIR DOGS).

* THE SILENT PARTNER (1978) - Elliott Gould stars as a bank teller who steals a little money for himself when Christopher Plummer robs his bank. Plummer turns out to be a psycho who won't leave Gould alone.

* AMERICAN BUFFALO (1996) - Dennis Franz stars as a pawnshop owner who realizes that a customer bought a valuable coin from him for a fraction of what it is really worth. Dustin Hoffman plays a sleazy thief who helps Franz concoct a plot to steal back the coin. Sean Nelson is a local junkie who gets more than he bargained for. Based on a play by David Mamet.

* SAVE THE TIGER (1973) - Jack Lemmon becomes desperate when his New York garment factory runs into financial trouble. He decides that the only solution is to pay an arsonist to burn down his warehouse so he can collect the insurance money. Co-starring Jack Gilford (who is perfect as Lemmon's partner) and Thayer David.

* THE PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK (1971) - Al Pacino and Kitty Winn star as New York City heroin addicts. This movie does a great job of creating an environment of sleaze, desperation and hopelessness. There are no winners here. Directed by Jerry Schatzberg.
