Hanniger! I'll be waiting in HELL for you!

« on: May 22, 2018, 02:16:19 AM »

Hey folks!
Remember when you aspired to have a certain career when you reached maturity?  What was it?  Did you actually achieve that goal?  If not, what did you end up doing instead?

Me:  I always wanted to be a game show host!  The flashing lights, the nice suits, the appreciative audience cheering you as you strode onto the stage as the announcer bellowed out your name.. boy did it sound awesome.  I was crazy about The Joker's Wild and Jack Barry BITD (and I used to dream I had my own lever and slides popping up in my own bedroom), and always wanted to be that spontaneous and witty and good with the contestants.  I know it could never have happened because I'm awkward socially and don't really like to be in the spotlight.

I instead worked several less interesting jobs over the course of 30 years-- custodian, dept. store manager, cook, and currently hospital employee.  I currently have a nice home and make decent scratch so I'm content but I often wonder what could have been had I applied myself to my dream.

What did you wanna be when you grew up?

Most of you know this story but yes, it did.  Smile

My folks took me to see Murder On The Orient Express (1974) when I was seven: the film blew me away and I told them I would like to be "in movies" one day.

Dad said that I might well do that one day and from then on, a lonely child had a hobby and in 1989, I became a film archivist. Since then, I've worked on over two hundred films - mostly un credited, like the one below -

I always wanted to teach history and write books.  I had hoped to be a tenured professor but that didn't work out, although I do teach part time at a local college.  But I've taught at the same private school for 22 years, and now I have five novels in print, so I guess I kind of got what I planned/hoped for.

Still wondering where all the groupies are, though.

I wanted to be a comic book artist.
I ended up working in factories.
BUT- I drew Moron Komix for 10 years for the local paper, so I'm ok with it.

I remember wanting to be an Oceanographer when I was a little kid, but I had grown out of it by the time I hit middle school.

Any chance to have a look at those comics?

I have a few copied online. I'll look em up. The rest- in my dead brother Richies duffel bag. And I have no idea where that is.
Every issue is in the Lawton Museum, because they have every issue of the Lawton Depot- which is the paper I drew for. I drew it starting 1990- 2000. Just before all the 9/11 s**t. I think my son has a lot of them too.

Heres one-

When I was young I wanted to be a car salesman.

I wound up going into information technology and am now in law school.

I did take a sales class back in 2003 with the idea of going in to vehicle sales but the interviews didn't go anywhere.

i wanted to be a singer. and in an oddball sort of way, i am, although i cook for a living. we have a home recording studio and i sing for my husband when he needs my rather strange vocal tones, or a good punkgirl shout singer, lol!
i also wanted to be a librarian until i discovered the classes you needed for certification have no bearing on the real job itself. i kinda do that too, though, in the sense of loaning out my own books and helping with a homeless outreach where i collect and catalog books, and distribute them to the " library boxes" in our local parks.
NEVER expected to cook for a living, although i've always loved to cook. i get annoyed too easily with people who don't read the menu, lol!

I'm honestly and massively impressed! Excellent. Has a 60s - 70s style to it, which I like.

I have had a few ex GF's who might be able to help you out there. Leastwise I remember once a month or so they would go crazy. Maybe get one of them to bite you?
