When I was very young, I wanted to be a scientist (because I thought it would be cool to mix chemicals all day).

Later I wanted to be a film director and/or screenwriter (actually, I went to 2 colleges for it but never finished my degree . . . now I'm a CPA).

I always wanted a job in nature, with as little contact with people as possible.  I decided at about 12 years old that I wanted to be a grave digger.  Not because I was morbid or anything (ok maybe a little), I just liked the idea of being in a beautiful park-like setting, doing something somewhat physically demanding, in the shade or at night, while not being accosted by the public.  Ideally, I would work alone, or with some kindred spirit, preferably someone with a hunchback and bug-eye.   Needless to say, this led to many a parental conversation from my schools until my mom told me to make something else up when they asked me this question.   Did it happen?  Heck no.  I later found out this was a job that wasn’t very easy to search or apply for.  So what do I do now?  Almost the opposite.  Not only do I work with people, I work for people, in human resources.  In an office Bluesad.

In my teens I wanted to be a comic book artist, but by the time I got to college I was losing interest in comics so that fell by the wayside. Looking back at the stuff I was doing back then, I wouldn't have been able to cut it in that industry anyway.

In college I wrote a lot about music (concert/album reviews, etc.) for the campus paper, so I thought I could be a rock n roll journalist. If you've ever seen "Almost Famous, " that was kinda how I pictured it. Unfortunately, due to a toxic combination of fear of failure and general naivete about how the real world works, I never got that globe trotting gig with Rolling Stone. (besides, it was the '90s by then and music had started to suck anyway, haha)

I ended up working behind-the-scenes in publishing, doing layouts & paste ups for our local newspaper conglomerate. Been there 24 years now and God willing I hope to squeak a few more out of it before the Internet destroys us entirely....

To satisfy my rock-journalist jones I review stuff on my blog that hardly anyone reads, just to keep my chops up in case Rolling Stone ever decides to call. :)

...oh, and I was supposed to be married to Carmen Electra too. Where did I go wrong??

You didn't become a cross dressing baseball player? That should cover the Carmen Electra part anyway.
