Even with all the extra TV channels nowadays it doesn't seem to have a Saturday morning cartoon show the way I used to see when I was a kid. So I've been stocking up on 70's, 80's and 90's cartoon to make our own shows for Ash as he grows.

Winchell and Mahoney were great. Then in the early 70s Paul Winchell hosted a Saturday morning game show for kids called "Runaround."

Other shows I loved when I was a kid:

* Soupy Sales

* The Groovy Ghoulies

* The Double Deckers - British kids who used an old double decker bus as a clubhouse (how cool is that?)

* Scooby Doo (of course - - but I didn't like the later shows when they added Scooby Dum and Scrappy Doo

* Thunderbirds

* Captain Scarlet

* Ultra Man

* The Monkees

So many . . . I watched way too much TV when I was a kid.

i'll add " land of the lost", " sigmund the sea monster" and from my twin nieces childhood, "animaniacs".
   burgo, do remember the name of the show that had all the short cartoons, the host's name was john something? it had pink panther, spy vs spy, cracked fairy tales, aesop's fables, stuff like that? i think it was new england only, on channel 56.

Was this Uncle Dale Dorman for the WLVI Kids Club cartoon block?  Or earlier than that, when it was called WKBG?
Anyway, I also grew up on Sid And Marty Krofft:

And the stupid SKATEBIRDS (though I did like the THE ROBONIC STOOGES segment):

It could have been Dale, but there were cartoon compilation shows on channels 56 and 38 even before he showed up. I remember somewhere around 1969 - 70 there was a very short-lived show called "Bunker Hill." The host worked in a train station and would introduce cartoons. I remember they had a contest where you could win a $100 shopping spree at Child World. I thought that would be the greatest thing. To me, $100 was almost $1 million.

There was also a guy on channel 27 (which was broadcast from Worcester, I think, and I could barely get a picture on the TV from where I lived in Saugus). His name was "Dickory Dock" and he also did cartoon intros. Again, this was probably around 1969-70.

And of course, all the more popular shows like Willie Whistle, Boomtown (with Rex Trailer and Pablo . . . but Pablo died and was replaced by Sgt. Billy), Major Mudd, and Bozo.

There were some crappy cartoons in the 60's as well, including Super President, Birdman, the Beatles, and some thing that had a super-hero kid in a diaper, he was part of a super hero team...I forget the name.

I like Clutch Cargo...

Those real mouths on cartoon faces are scarier than anything in any horror movie I've seen.

If you look at them, for some reason to me, it looks like they have cold sores around the rim of their mouths. It was just creepy.
And the cartoons NEVER moved- but that mouth was yapping away.
When the cartoons DID move- it was like with the movement of a cardboard Halloween skeleton.
