I got the letter from the city today that there was a complaint about tall weeds last week too.  I was kind of expecting that.. we have a couple sticking out of the bushes.

We had that happen when I was still a kid living at home. My family came back from a 10-day vacation to find a note on the door from the town. One of our neighbors had called to complain that our grass was too tall and "creating an eyesore." Well, of course it was tall - no one was home to mow it for ten days! Of course, my parents then told teenage me to get out there and cut the lawn right away, which I really didn't wanna do cuz it was hot as hell, and I was dead tired from the vacation and the 3+ hour car ride home...

Anyway, I knew which neighbor had called in the complaint (same guy who would call the cops if a car he didn't recognize was parked in the street, if your leaves weren't raked, etc. -- like I said before, every neighborhood has one!)...so when I had to empty the mower's grass catcher, I took it over to his house (he was at work at the time) and emptied it out in the middle of his driveway in a nice neat pile.

When I was done with my stealth vandalism, I half expected him to show up at our front door later in the day -- in fact, I was kinda waiting for it so I could tell him to mind his own effin' business in person -- but he didn't, and there were no further "complaints."

Thanks for all your feedback!  Apparently, as many of you have confirmed, this is a super common way suburbans "fight".  The people I talked to with the city were really nice and understanding.  I'm not being fined for the weeds.  The guy with city standards (for the weeds) said the citation was closed after the letter was sent and we were marked as not being in violation.  He said most of their complaints are from troublesome neighbors and they normally just close out the item without further correspondence when they suspect the complaint is malicious.  Good to know.  I still hired a landscaping company to come out and take care of the weeds.

As much as I think it would be very satisfying to do something diabolical to the unknown complainer, I'm thinking that by complying with the complaint and not retaliating, it's going to drive them crazy wondering if I am going to try to do something to get back at them.  Probably not though  Smile.

PS.

Being the nerd (help desk) on the block I started a YouTube page for us. To give you an idea of what we've turned this place into here's a video from last year's 4th of July party.

https://youtu.be/8DLiIaM2TB8

We may one up it this year.

The point being just hang in there, get to know the good people around you and the crappy ones will leave you alone.

That does look like a lot of fun!  I don't think there are "good people" around here, except for the neighbors next door, but they keep saying they plan on moving soon, so not sure how long they will be around.  If anyone is looking to move to the Chicago suburbs, let me know!

I live in the suburbs and we've had issues with neighbors. it's always awkward but as Ronald reagan said , there are no easy answers but there are simple answers. someone usually mans up and lays it out and then you move forward, one way or the other.

This is completely unacceptable, Paquita. Maybe we should all hop on a plane and pay you a visit. When your neighbors get an eyeful of your bamovies.org friends, they will definitely leave you alone. I would personally take care of this by issuing an edict . . . but, alas, the Burgomaster has no jurisdiction in your area.  Bluesad

Agreed entirely, Burgo.

If I got there, Paquita, I don't think your neighbors would ever bother you again.  TeddyR

I think we need to set a dresscode for this get together.

So, how close to completely nude can you get before it's illegal?

I'm planning to show up in underpants and slippers with my fat gut hanging out.

I know in Texas we have "open carry" for swords now - would I get in trouble if I came with my gladius strapped to my belt?

I'm totally up for hosting a violation party!  Feel free to come bearing weapons, in the nude, drunk, whatever.  We can weave flower crowns out of weeds and project The Demon and Meet the Feebles on the garage and have a sing along.
