On 16th I start a liquid diet in preparation for my upcoming surgery.  I'll be getting a gastric bypass procedure done.

So, yeah, the time is rapidly approaching.  I'd been looking into/learning about/applying for this for several months and now it's almost here.

I won't lie, I'm really nervous about it.  I mean, will I be able to do it okay?  Will I have the will I need to make good choices afterwards?  Can I confront and deal with the emotional need to eat certain things even if I'm not hungry for them?

Eating has been such a huge part of my life, I think there's a portion of me that doesn't want to give it up, like someone clinging to an anchor even as the ship is going down.  I wasn't exaggerating when I said in an earlier post that sometimes all I look forward to during the day is what I'm fixing (or ordering) for dinner.

But then again, I want to be thinner.  I want to have energy.  I'm tired of being tired all the time.  I want to be able to go into a store and actually contemplate buying any of the clothes there because they'll actually fit.  I want to go up a flight of stairs without being winded.  And heck, maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to start dating again.

But again... it's not as simple as, "Get the surgery and viola! Weight loss!"

Kind of wish also I had a bigger support circle... but I'm gonna try to rectify that by going to a local support group meeting later this month.

Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble.

I am sure after the operation you'll feel much better. Take care mate, and if you ever need someone just to chat to I can add you on Skype. Remember lots of people on here will be rooting for you.

If I'mn not mistaken, didn't someone else here have this surgery? Hopefully they'll speak up and support you.

Anyway, good luck, we'll be pulling for you!

Anyway, good luck!

One of my closest friends had a re-section type procedure done in December.  Not only has he lost lots of weight, he has much more energy and desires only small meals, can't eat more than a fraction of what he once was able to eat.  Best of luck to you.   Thumbup

What do you mean?  Are you a dietitian?  If so, cool!  I'll keep that in mind!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone!

Right now I'm on day two of my liquid diet and it suuuuucks!!  Especially when I drove through town and could smell the fried chicken from the local Chick-Fil-A.

But, I kept reminding myself, among other things, how poorly my current clothes fit and how sluggish I've been feeling lately, and that seemed to help.

Also, went by Wal-Mart to pick up some stuff for my diet.  Hot tip: the PB2 (low-fat peanut butter powder) REALLY adds some kick to a bland protein shake!

fabulous, AoT! and yes, i am now an official dietician, finished my last class and got my certificate 3 weeks ago. i take my licensing tests in october  in case i ever decide to give up my home based catering business, which is doubtful, lol!
some of my clients need specialised diets, so i went back to the online school where i got my school dietician certification to finally finish, after 17 years. not bad at almost 57!
