Actually, been home for since Friday but haven't been up to sitting down and posting yet.

They tell me the surgery went really well.  In addition to the bypass, they also took out my gallbladder (turned out to have some stones in there).  I think my surgeon undersold what it would feel like afterwards, he said it would be like I'd done "several hundred crunches".  Feels more like someone was digging around in my guts!  I've got ten little points of entry on my stomach now.  The pain is going away steadily with each day, so hopefully by my next appointment (a week from now), it'll be gone altogether.

I can't praise the nursing staff at the hospital enough.  They were really wonderful.  Knowing that bending over would be painful for me, they even helped me put on my socks before each session walking around the hospital floor (or just walking to the bathroom.)

The weirdest part is, of course, getting used to eating (or in this case, drinking) again.  Due to the surgery my stomach is not used to having a lot of fluid in it at once, so I can only drink little bits at a time. Anything more and I feel like I've got a bad case of heartburn. At the same time though, I have to avoid getting dehydrated so they advised me to take "constant sips" throughout the day.  I'm on an all liquid diet for the first week, then I'll gradually introduce semi-solid foods and go from there.

Anyway, just wanted to thank everyone for all the well wishes!

Glad to hear it all went well (of course we all knew it would do). Hugs and just let your body recover.

Glad to hear it's behind you.  My friend who had had the re-section last December also had his gallbladder out ("a bonus").
