Phantom Thread is my first Paul Thomas Anderson film and I can see why people think he's a genius.
The story seems simple enough and starts out at a slow pace, a French woman named Alma falls in love
with a British dress Designer named Reynolds Woodcock (I am not mature enough to take that name seriously)
played by renowned actor Daniel Day-Lewis. However Alma finds that Reynolds is insane when it comes to his art
and she finds herself constantly walking on eggshells trying to fit into his perfectionist lifestyle.

Phantom Thread won the "Best Achievement in Costume Design" award at the 2018 Oscars and by god it deserved it.
I'm not really a connoisseur of clothing, I just toss on a random shirt and pants everyday but I have to appreciate
these dresses, they're absolutely phenomenal. I know a dress is great if both me and my Dad go "Woooow."

It's a great story about a very bizarre romance. I will warn you though, for a 130 minute film the pace is extremely slow.
I don't think it would work at all with a faster pace but if you lack patience then you might not like this movie.
There's a metric s**tload of shots of the characters just staring at each other. However when they stare it gets across exactly what they're thinking.
It's a conversation without words and I found myself feeling really tense when the movie turns into a glaring match.
I've never seen directing so masterful that I can get so much from people just staring at each other.

I'm pretty impressed that I enjoyed it. The movie was kinda fighting an uphill battle with my tastes. I can't put my finger on why
but I instantly get bored when I have to see the British aristocracy do anything. I just couldn't suffer through Downton Abbey and The Crown.
I thought that the first twenty minutes of Phantom Thread were kinda boring but it picked up pretty quickly in my opinion.
If you don't mind a slow pace then I recommend it.
