I'm watching as much of this as I can bear.  I just hate one question:

Just how much LSD did the writer,  director and production crew go thru making this? Personally i'm thinking at leasta kilo,  possibly two.

Dr. Seuss
It's kinda like trying to watch the FOX Sunday night line up in live action...
It just somehow doesn't work outside of the improbable world of cartoons....

I thought we might want to consider forcing terrorists to watch this movie as a means of interrogation, but then decided that would amount to a crime against humanity....

Consider that absolutely horrible remake involving Jim Carey and you get the picture....

Yes, the original script for Dr T was far more hallucinogenic, subversive and I daresay, 'perverted', and would've had absolutely no place outside of hand drawn animation!

Oh goodness, I saw that as a kid on the midday movie and was scarred. I mean SCARRED. The crazy huge hands and all the piano stuff, wtf. I've never seen it since, but this thread brought it back. Jeepers.

see, now, i LOVE this movie, in particular the sets. in an odd way, it reminds me of the original cabinet of dr. caligari, it's just as bizarre.

Yes, it probably 'would' make a good Saturday night Midnight movie in theaters that still serve alcohol... BounceGiggle

Yep. You have to hand it to Dr. Seuss.  He disavowed the film after it was released. Where I use to live, there was an afternoon program that showed old films, and if they called you and were watching their particular film that day, you won an X amount of $. And one of the films they showed one day was this one, and as Dr. Seuss lived in the area, the host of the program invited him to come into the studio and talk about the film. Nope. He wanted nothing more to do with the film he had written. Even though it has now become something of a cult classic.

Another reason to I enjoyed it, it has Hans Conried in one of his few villainous roles on the big screen. While mainly working as a voice actor and on TV, he was the host of the TV series Fractured Flickers, he and Charlie Lung had (IMHO) one of the greatest comedy duels ever seen on film in Siren of Bagdad. He also, during the film, got off one of the most memorable non sequiturs I ever heard.  [Wanting to distract a guard] he says: "I beg your pardon. I realize they haven't been invented yet, but have you got a match." Me: ROTFL!
