I just saw it about an hour ago.

No spoilers but it was very good, quite gory, well acted and well edited and photographed.

Jamie Lee Curtis was good as Laurie.

There were three deaths in the film which made me grin.

John Carpenter's score was used to good effect.

Ask me anything

Glad you enjoyed it Trevor. John Carpenter played some of the score live last night before transforming it into the classic score.

People seem to either love it or hate it.  I am inbetween.

John Carpenter himself said "It will scare the *@%$ out of you!".  Nope.  Not even close to scary.  It really doesn't help that the trailers give everything away.  The film is very predictable.  That said, the film isn't bad and is definitely competently made.

Jamie Lee Curtis is definitely the star of the flick and is the strongest facet by far.  Pacing, camera work is good.  People used to the original may cringe at the gore in this film-- and the body count is pretty high.  I don't mind gore myself but in some spots it seemed a bit much.

Characters often do really stupid things in horror films to basically deserve their fate and this film is no different.  One crowning moment is when a guy stops his car with the mental patients (Michael among them) wandering across the road, and gets out to check on the bus driver, leaving his son in the car alone.  Wow.. just call the police and get the hell out of there!  The bus crash isn't even shown, just the aftermath.

A stupid plot device is thrown in about 3/4 through that comes out of nowhere and really was unnecessary.  Viewers complained while mentioning this on IMDB that I read and I agree.

I definitely got a kick out of the closer camera work on Michael-- other movies didn't show nearly as much of the Shape.  It kind of gets you up close and personal, even if you can't exactly figure out what makes him tick.

Not a whole lot of likable characters outside of Curtis.  That's typical of horror movies though so I give that a pass.  I did kind of like the duo that interviewed Laurie and met Michael, and of course they're bumped off early on.

I'd maybe put it on par with Halloween II.  Not bad, but nowhere near the quality of the first.  I kind of prefer H20.

If that's the same plot device I'm thinking of, my reaction to it was WTF? Not necessary at all.  Question

I've actually worked with people like that in the past who don't just report the story, they become it.

If you do go, don't expect too much from it and you will enjoy it.

Me? I saw it on my own which sucks. No one else in the theatre.  Thumbdown

If it's the same plot device I think you're referring, I thought it was unnecessary at first, too, but then after thinking about it for awhile, it did kinda explain a couple of things.

Spoiler...

It explains how MM was setup to get loose (it was engineered so he could be observed "in the field"), why the transfer happened on October 30/31st again, and some of his motivations, explained by a few of his line drops, explain that the victim and the victimizer of random acts of violence can have different reactions (Laurie reacted one way, but the hint at the very last shot shows how it might just go the other way). Like, once you get a taste of it, it could make you like the initial perp. it's almost like he was a fan boy.

Sorry, spoiler tag isn't working.

Indeed we can.  Thumbup

The one thing about this site is that while all of us disagree on films sometimes, the disagreement is friendly and no one gets on each others nerves while having differing views on a film.  Smile Smile
