I feel fortunate to have parents who exposed me to a wide range of music, art and literature from a very early age. So along with Beethoven, Bach and Frederick Forsyth and Steven Spielberg, the sounds of Queen thundered through our house for many years. This was in their heyday of album releases, so there was a periodic ritual of getting a new album, Mum firing up the turntable, and we'd listen to what new wonders Freddie, Brian, Roger and John had woven. We watched Queen's set on Live Aid. We were thrilled by the soundtracks for Flash Gordon (1980) and Highlander (1986). And we were deeply saddened by Freddie's passing in 1991.

Fast forward a few decades, and Bohemian Rhapsody is released. Wow. Just wow. There is so much feeling and visual glory in this movie. Yes, there were quite a few fudgings and inaccuracies in the history, but I understand the desire for dramatic effect. The whole picture that was painted is lush, energetic, and filled with joy. Being able to see the Live Aid gig reproduced so well, from the viewpoint of the people who were there, is just amazing. If you watch the movie, compare the Live Aid scenes to the original footage, and you'll see how closely they followed it, right down to the number and type of cups on the piano Freddie played.

As a nice bit of promotion, the documentary Freddie Mercury The Great Pretender was shown on television on the weekend on the film's release, which provided a lot of context for the historical aspects of the film, and Freddie's quirks. I never knew about his love of cats, and how he would call his cat sitters when he was on tour and ask to talk to his cats!

If you like Queen, if you like a good story, if you enjoy music, watch this movie.

Had its moments, the opening few minutes for instance, but I didn't fall for this film the way many others did. It's kinda like...if you want gold, go to the gold mine. I've seen better portrayals of Freddie Mercury too. There's enough footage of Queen out there to do a better job of telling their story than Bohemian Rhapsody did. Just the 1985 Live Aid performance alone is sheer brilliance beyond the inaccurate story this movie sold us.

the cast was Brilliant, Live Aid was f.. perfectly done and was really wonderfully done, the script however wasn't it was a terrible film all it did was just make me mad on how much they made up, for example when Freddy wanted to do a Solo Album that would be (1985)'s  Mr. Bad Guy  a pretty good album actually Queen never did break up. Roger put out his own music in (1977) long before Freddy did and those songs were Turn on the Tv, I wanna Testify both really good tunes.
it was a single he at the time did no album he later did his first in (1981) Fun in Space another in (1984) Strange Frontier, Brian did an EP with Eddie Van Halen
sorry about my spelling if i spelled that wrong?

Freddy did a song called Man from Manhattan i think that was the title? in (1976) i can't remember if he was just the background singer or if he did it as the lead.
John Deacon played bass on a number of different albums Elton John's  albums "Ice on Fire" (1985) and (1986)'s   Leather Jackets.

i can go on how much that movie got wrong but you get the idea. Sharon Osbourne said it perfectly and i'm not that big of a fan of her's but she said they Hall Marked's it and she's right.  i liked Elton's better and i think it was more Honest than Queen's

i've been a fan of Queen since (1991) and all that film made me was mad at how easy they went on them and how bad the script was and how many lies they put into the film as well. even my Niece whom i had no idea she was even a fan was calling them catching what was wrong in the film. i liked not loved liked the Elton one better, i didn't like how they made the entire thing a musical but it was more honest with him when he was younger than the Queen one was.

i don't expect them to tell everything the band did during their tenure as a band but at least tell some of the truth. one thing they had left out was in (1974) Brian May got sick i forget with what Leukemia i think? and he damn near died from it so when they recorded Sheer Heart attack In (1974) they did the entire album without him and when he got better he added them in. there's a video on you tube that's even got a version of Killer Queen without Brian and it sounds so weird.

a you tube commenter said that's fake i posted uh no it's not it's real and posted what i just did and funny i never got a reply on that. since the man damn near died you'd think they'd put that in. my brother who's an even bigger fan than i am and knows the history a lot better than i do hated the film more than i do. i'm not sure what he thought of The Elton one he did tell me but i can't remember to be honest.  i bought both of these on 4K.  when i started to Watch Bohemian Rhapsody after i bought it i got up i think to the part where he met his partner i forget his that he was with when he died. i lost interest in it and when i picked it up again like a year later or so i picked it up right where i left off. i watched the Elton one in one sitting and i've watched it a few times now it's not among my favorite films of all time but i don't mind watching it once in a blue moon. it's one of those movies that you can clean the house with it on and that's not a bad thing either.

both films are actually but the Elton one more so which is my guess why they did it that way to take a guess

Enjoyed it. Doesn't matter to me what they got wrong or right, what they added or didn't. Most of the essentials and hightlights were there, and Rami Malek won the Oscar. Good enough for me.

oh he was perfect for the role there's no denying that it's just that i love the band so much and when it's done wrong it really upsets me, and by wrong i don't mean the casting but the script.  my favorite band of all time is the beach boys and the one i enjoyed the most was the (1990) Beach boys film i forget the name of it as i haven't seen it in years. it was based of The Steven Gaines Book "Heroes and Villains  which i have on paperback and the film is honestly better than the book   though i will say that the fake beards they put on the guys does make me laugh each time i watch it.

though the music isn't the Original my only complaint that one is about Brian and Denny Mostly and i'm okay with that, the one that came out in (2000) is focused more on the group  which was good but one goes up to (1983)  the 1st film with Denny dying and the other up to i think (1974) if i recall. both are good movies

but i want them to make it done with someone who clearly loves the band and puts in the hardships they went through and not just put in the hits but some of the lesser known songs as well and have it up to whatever year the film is shot in.  it would be a long movie but worth it if they got the right script and the right cast and director.  The Brian Wilson film that came out a few years back Love and Mercy (2015) was really good but it just focused mainly on part of the 60's and than him and Landy's relationship later on and it was a good movie.  even Brian had trouble watching it cause it brought up bad memories but he dealt with that, the going back and forth is not how i would have done that between his younger years and his later years.   but that one was i think Better than the Queen one  though it wasn't a hit like Bohemian Rhapsody was.
