So a YouTube channel I like posted a commentary of this film so I downloaded procured a PERFECTLY LEGAL copy of it so I could watch it with the commentary track. Honestly, even with the commentary track the film was an extremely unpleasant experience. So this entire thing is just Monkey's Paw: The Movie... Kinda.
The premise is that Unrealistically Dumb Horror Movie Protagonist #979,634,083,465,326 finds a music box that grants her seven wishes. However every time she uses a wish a random person close to her is killed. Oh, I'm sorry. Did I say a random person CLOSE to her? I mean only three characters she actually cares about die. The first killing is her beloved childhood dog, but after that it's just a bunch of people she barely knows until the very end of the movie.

Instead of ending world hunger, curing cancer, or preventing this film from being made she uses her music box to wish for dumb and petty s**t like popularity and revenge. She's one of the dumbest horror film protagonists I've ever seen, which is saying a lot. The dialogue is super cringy and screams "HOW DO YOU DO, FELLOW KIDS?" I mean the entire thing is just painful. During one bit there's a sweeping shot of a city but in, like, 240p stock footage. That's embarrassing. The gore effects are really unimpressive save for one, the deaths are absolute non-sense, there's a painfully dragged out scene where they try to make you guess which character is going to die by having both of them be in dangerous situations. One of the character's is playing some kind of Pokèmon Go rip-off that was just a super annoying way of trying to connect with kids.

I just hated the entire movie. The ending was unintentionally hilarious but pretty much the only entertainment I got was from the commentary track. Even then I kinda stopped paying attention to the track because I was distracted by how dumb everything on screen was. I'm not sure it was worth it, even for the laughs.

Just... Uhg.
