STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION threw out some real quality episodes, but the season-ending, two part cliffhanger "The Best of Both Worlds" is still my favorite.  Captain Picard kidnapped and assimilated by the Borg?  OH NO!!! Buggedout Buggedout Buggedout

'Our Mrs Reynolds' in Firefly. I was torn between this and 'The Train Robbery', both of which are great episodes for establishing character, as well as sewing plot threads that return later in the season.

Indeed. It was the show I'd been waiting for since Babylon 5 ended.

"Luck of the Fryish" form Futurama.

While Futurama had some really emotional moments, I think this episode did the best job of managing both the drama and the comedy.

In some ways I think "Devil in the dark" was star trek's best ep. Kirk wanted to kill the horta for what it had done,  Spock thought it might not be right to kill it.  They disagreed but kirk had faith in Spock,  later when kirk found out the truth he was willing to kill fellow humans to protect the horta.  Leonard nimoy had to do some serious acting and emoting in this episode,  which was even harder given how funny the horta prop  looked.  All in all I think it caught the spirit of th original star trek series perfectly.
