the fire department never did figure out why it blew up, so it was judged as a" gas surge", and we had electric stoves forever after. it's always a struggle for me at work, because the phobia is so bad i have to get someone else to turn it on and put things in and take them out for me. and i constantly check the knobs to make sure the ovens are off... it's weird, i don't have an issue with the gas fryers, grills or burners, just the ovens.

You were young when it happened, I reckon. I was 25.
And I was drunk too. My immediate thought was that Laurel and Hardy short where Hardy blows up the oven and he flys across the room. Because that's what happened. Burned my eyebrows and lashes,trimmed the front of my hair and turned my face red!

What's funny in a movie may not be funny in real life. Then again Stan Laurel said slapstick depends more on the characters' reactions than the events themselves. Was someone there to do a double take? ;)
