The hanging scene in Jannie Totsiens: still un-nerves me after all these years.  :buggedout:

The scene from Alien when the crew are looking for the little version after it burst out of Kane. Brett is looking around some empty storage room and you can see the shadow of the alien silently dropping down behind him.

I agree with that scene in Jaws with a few others not far behind, all from prior to them setting out to catch the shark.

Let's not forget Alan Arkin in 'Wait Until Dark', a good surprise.

I used to think the closing shot of The Omen was incredibly sinister. Then I found out the kid was actually trying not to crack up laughing and they'd to cut the scene at that point as a second later he busted up.

Oddly enough the most horrific scenes in some horror movies aren't shown.

In the blob the most horrific scenes aren't on camera. The cops we're talking about a bar that was empty, the cash register open, the TV on,  but no  one was in it. We know what happened to the people in the bar but only imagine it.

Likewise the scene in the theater must have been horrific, how many people were consumed in it? I'm surprised so many got out. Maybe it landed on several people and had to stop to digest them,  but it still means multiple people were eaten.

Sometimes the real horror is implied,  not seen.

Does "Silence of the Lambs" count as horror?  If so.. the end when Hannibal just walks out into the crowd still terrifies me.

I don't really know 100% but I think they're just a bunch of images that loop around. the file name will end with .gif and you post them as you would a normal image

I loathed Stanley Kubrick's The Shining but the twins who appear as Danny is pedalling down the corridor still chills me.  :buggedout:

The scene with the woman in the bathtub haunted me for many years. I was a kid when I watched that movie and that particular image really disturbed me. It wasn't until I rewatched the whole thing again many years after that I found it extremely boring. It's not a bad movie, just very slow paced. Waaaay too slow.

Why does everything have to be blowing up?
So CGI F/X and action make a good movie? Are you that shallow?

I thought the SHINING, which i saw in a theater in Kalamazoo, was scary as f**k.
I went with my buddy Nick and his sister Daphne and my cousin Tina. Tina f**king freaked out when Jack hit Scatman with the axe! She ran up the aisle into the popcorn room!
Ah. Good times.

this is one of my favorite scenes-

Not at all. In fact, I usually loathe CGI - practical effects, those I love, although I don't really need them to enjoy a movie, they just add to it. But THE SHINING has too many scenes where basically nothing happens, and drags too long. You don't need extremely tedious scenes to prove a point of unease. I mean, it goes for 2:26 hours to tell the story of a guy who loses his mind in a haunted hotel... why?
Again, I don't think it's a bad movie and and do enjoy it to some degree, especially the performance of Jack Nicholson, it's just that I have to be in the right mood to watch it. For some reason one of my favorite scenes is when he put his wallet away after hitting it a couple of times against the table. I like that reaction so much that I sometimes do it in real life, to ensure the stuff is well pocketed in there. :tongueout:

As far as Stephen King adaptations, I prefer 1408 and particularly MISERY, which nailed the tension perfectly. I believe the original IT suffers from the same problem than THE SHINING. Too much blabla, not enough suspense nor creepyness.
