I've just started watching the marvelous House Of Cards, and remembered that Kevin Spacey had been accused of sexual misconduct around the time the series was cancelled. He was fired from the show, which was then rewritten to focus on his character's wife. Today, the charges have been dropped and, the the civil case by the complainant's family has also been dropped. The complainant seems to have deleted text messages which would have indicated he consented to Spacey's advances, hahahahahahaha.

People like this give a bad name to everyone who has been a legitimate victim of sexual assault or abuse. For everyone who is publicly revealed to have fabricated their case, or otherwise obfuscated proceedings, it makes it harder for those with legitimate issues to come forward, lest they be accused of lying themselves.

It's a deeply unfortunate side effect of the media-driven world in which we live. It was bad enough when the local gossips spread rumours, but now everything gets out on Facebook, Twitter, and news outlets. The court of public opinion is wider today that it has ever been.

I hope he takes legal action against the studio that replacement d his scenes in that movie about getty.  He needs to attasck them to prove they wronged him and he won't accept it.

People here are conflating two things.  The thing that badly damaged his career and led to his role being deleted as Getty and dropped from House of Cards was a long accusation by Anthony Rapp (who's currently starring on Star Trek Discovery, if you don't know the name), who says Kevin Spacey basically tried to initiate sex with him when he was 14 and Spacey was like 30 (they didn't actually have sex, to be clear).  This accusation is still around, and isn't even denied by Spacey.  Over a year after this accusation, Kevin Spacey was accused of groping someone at a bar.  He was eventually charged for that.  THIS is the charge that is being dropped.  He was never charged for the thing with Anthony Rapp.
