I love this film, and not only because it is by far the best movie set in 1920s Missoula, Montana.

Eh. If I'm with a girl....ok.  Otherwise I fall asleep.  Otherwise I'd rather watch a Godzilla movie.
I can watch slow movies. I watch lotsa old silent films that creep like moss. But that movie-ugh....

I'm surprised you guys don't like it. I think it's one of the all-time greats. Beautiful scenery, good performances, tragic semi-true story. I think it might be my second favorite '90s movie after LA Confidential.

I liked LA CONFIDENTIAL.  It's not even close to my top 90's film, though.
If you enjoy it- more power to you.  Thumbup

I don't really have an opinion because I only recall a few minutes of it... at least it ain't LEGENDS OF THE FALL.
I haven't researched the film, were the other two actors playing the sons?  It must be an early one in BRAD PITT's career, because if I remember rightly, CRAIG whats it has the lead...?   If I remember rightly, CRAIG whatsit was in a TV movie with RICKI LAKE that I really liked...  probably 1989 or so...

I watched LEGENDS OF THE FALL once with a girl from Kalamazoo. She was a nice lady. It was her favorite movie.  Her name was Mimi. She was older than me, a black woman. Good company -BAD movie. I fell asleep.

Oh, yeah, I lived through the Legends of the Fall craze in high school, and THAT was a bad, bad movie.

AHD, yeah, it was early-on in Brad Pitt's career, and the funny thing is the other son, Craig Sheffer (msp?) was the actor predicted to emerge the superstar. If you look closely, Joseph Gordon Levitt, as a young boy, plays a role in a sort of flashback scene. Brenda Blethyn did a spot-on American accent in there, too.

Another connection for why I loved this movie so much back in the day, a friend of mine in Texas felt a deep pull in this movie because of the relationship of the brothers, and he lost a brother too under frustratingly needless circumstances, and their relationship had been similar, him always trying to step in and save his brother, always trying to be the steady one, in the end his brother also brought his own ending down on himself, like in this movie.

I expect TCM will broadcast it again; I'll make a point to look at it.  You're right CRAIG WHATSIT was expected to emerge the star.
