Watched the movie as a kid and loved it. Picked up the book as a young teenager and thought it was a bit meh, neither great nor terrible but I was interested in some of the concepts enough to pick up the sequel (Logan's World) to see how it developed but I didn't bother hunting down any of the other books. But yeah, to get back to the film even as a kid I'd have to agree about the stupid looking robot. Then again, as someone who watched Dr. Who avidly as a child it was hardly the worst one I'd ever seen.

Earth is visited by a GIANT ANTIMATTER SPACE BUZZARD! Gawk at the amazingly bad bird puppet, or chuckle over the silly dialog. This is one of the greatest b-movies ever made.
