sorry in advance for how vague this is going to be...

film, watched on tv in about 1990-92 guessing the movie itself was 80s era. mid or late 80s?

a kind of downbeat sci-fi drama/thriller. set on earth, no aliens/spacecraft etc (that I can recall)

early on there were scenes of a fetus growing, perhaps in some kind of lab, more specifically some kind of container?

main character is a guy who is perhaps a scientist... he is in some kind of trouble or bad situation, and the fetus is part of the reason why. they're developing a new way to create human life perhaps?

remembering lots of night time scenes, moody atmospherics. perhaps a lot of  rain?

erm yeah, I give myself about 3/10 for that description, but I'm confident I will be able to know if someone guesses it right. good luck.

I just watched the first 30 mins of that on youtube and it ticks so many of the boxes for what I remember this film to be, that I think it must be the one.... the voice-over monologue, and the dog are ringing a bell as well. 76 is just earlier than I would've guessed

I think you must be right. kudos  Thumbup Thumbup Thumbup
