Yup, listening again.  Weird and competent enough to be in my wheelhouse.  Pretty p.u. too.

Spending the morning searching through Internet Archives digitized collection of old out-of-print records (mostly from the 30s, 40s). It's hard to find decent stuff but I tried out this one:

This one has much better sound quality than usual. I already own versions of these songs from about the same time period (might be the exact same versions, I haven't checked). A nice set for Ellington newbies, though. https://archive.org/details/78_a-duke-ellington-panorama_duke-ellington-and-his-famous-orchestra-ellington-miley-d_gbia0003362/Mood+Indigo+-+Duke+Ellington+and+his+Famous+Orchestra-restored.flac

One more... worse sound quality, but a lineup of mostly covers I'd never heard Duke do before.

^ I'll be following those links.  Thx!  As STEVIE said, "...the king of all Sir Duke..."  I have a number of different takes of the same material by a few Jazz greats and always enjoy them (thinking particularly of DIZZY).

^ think some of them made it onto the Blanton/Webster band compilation we both own. If they're not the exact same recordings, they're very close.^
