A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

It's nice to see the History Channel actually doing history again, instead of stuff like ANCIENT ALIENS and ICE ROAD TRUCKERS.
This three part miniseries was half narration, half re-enactment, telling the story of the rise of one of America's unlikeliest heroes, Ulysses Grant. While the bulk of the show was devoted to Grant's generalship in the Civil War, it also described his early years quite well - his service in the Mexican War, his dismissal from the Army in 1851, and his quick rise to the top during America's bloodiest war.  The last 45 minutes or so dealt with his Presidency, including his heroic fight to crush the KKK and insure black voting rights in 1872, and the scandals that racked his second term.  Overall, this was an excellent miniseries about one of my favorite historical figures. 5/5

i LOVED( of course) the mini series" the food that built america" on the history channel late last year.  the personal stories about the businesses as well as how these items were created was just fascinating. this is one i'll eventually own, it was THAT cool.

I also watched and was glad to see the "History Channel" doing history.  They did a nice job of pointing out how neglected GRANT's legacy became and remains.

I always enjoy the annual Historians' Polls that rank the Presidents, and I can remember when Grant was ranked dead last.  His stock has risen and continues to rise over the last two decades.  I highly recommend Jean Smith's biography, as well as Ronald Chernow's (although of the two I liked Smith's better.)
