That seems like a hell of a lot of effort to make a fake version of something when you already have all the parts to make a real version and it would be 1000 times easier.

I've seen this stuff in REAL LIFE guys!  It was at a furniture store.  I think a thrift store even.  I was cradling one of the mutilated books and one of the employees saw me and I think I had a sad look of "why?" and he said they did it to deter people from stealing them.

I think it's kinda cool... not... uhm I have piles of books (and CDs) that were "discarded" either by libraries or on the street the day before junk pickup.
