Post 20 favorite songs of yours. In order not to clutter up the thread too fast, post one song per day. I'll start mine with

#1) Suzi Quatro - 48 Crash (1973)

1.JANIS! Ball and Chain!

I could have included that one in my list, but I won't. (Actually, it's the performance I worship there, not the song per se).

I won't do an actually 20 favorite songs because I don' think I could. Just 20 that are among my favorites.

1. St. James Infirmary - traditional, best known for Louis Armstrong's versions:

I dunno, Rev, I find it hard to separate the song from the performer. A song is only as good as the singer, IMHO.

Billie Holiday- STRANGE FRUIT

I guess my point is I wouldn't be jazzed to hear anyone but Janis do "Ball and Chain," so to me, it's that particular performance I love, not the song itself. I'd be willing to listen to anyone give "St. James Infirmary" or "Strange Fruit" a spin because those are amazingly written songs.

I have to disagree. Not every one can sing a song and make it good. It can be the best song in the world-or the worst! A good singer can take a s**t song and make it classic.

I agree a good singer can take a s**t song and make it a classic, but that doesn't make it one of my favorite songs. It makes it one of my favorite performances (of a bad song). I'm being pedantic if you hadn't noticed.  TongueOut

I think we all agree that we are probably thinking of performances and recordings.
I can't automatically name a "favorite song" but I know my favorite bit of recorded music is "Dirt"Smile
