Way back on 2014, I watched Solomon Kane. I recently discovered my review of it when looking through old blog entries.

I didn't even know there was a Solomon Kane movie.

Reading your review though, it doesn't sound a lot like the character I'm somewhat familiar with.  For starters, he doesn't look like a sour faced pilgrim.

I've seen it and read some of the original short stories.  A bit of the general personality is there, to the point where it's kind of recognizable, and the casting is pretty good too.  But different enough that if they'd put another name to the character I wouldn't have noticed.  Of course, Solomon Kane isn't a super well defined character anyway, so I don't think that's a harsh criticism of the movie.

Movie is OK, worth a watch, but not great.  I guess I agree with Ted more or less.  Like a decent 6/10 from me.

I'd like to just once see a movie made from one of REH stories, not just featuring one of his characters.

I've seen it and read some of the original short stories.

One of the old issues of The Savage Sword of Conan the Barbarian from the late '80s/early '90s had a comic short at the end of the magazine for Solomon Kane. It was a short comic adaptation of the old Robert E. Howard poem "Solomon Kane's Homecoming" which was really well done. It was the only Solomon Kane story that I ever liked out of that old magazine series, of which there weren't that many.

I liked the Kane stories but have heard a lot of bad stuff about the movie. Plus I've seen that actor naked so many times I just couldn't get past thinking about that if I tried to give the film a shot.  Every time I watch Mansfield Park and he comes into a scene I start thinking yeah, yeah, but I saw you skyclad in Rome, move along.

I had actually never heard of Solomon Kane, before this movie.  I was familiar with Conan of course, but Solomon Kane had escaped my sight.  I've been thinking about reading some of his stories since then, but it always seems to be one if those things I keep putting off.

As for the movie itself.  I thought it was fine.

If you ever want to read them, there's not much to it.  The entire collection of all of Howard's Kane stories is only like 230 pages.  If you read Conan and liked them, you'll probably like Kane.

I enjoyed the film. It takes itself a bit too seriously, but it is entertaining and atmospheric.

Haven't read the stories, though. I don't know how faithful the adaptation is.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.
