Remember another film that scared me as a kid - The Wizard of Oz (1939) - the Wicked Witch, the flying monkeys, even on some levels the munchkins...

Another one that creeps me out is The Other (1972) - very unsettling atmosphere...another like that that comes to mind is The Innocents (1961).

Of those I mentioned above, Salem's Lot, Predator, Dracula Has Risen From the Grave, Intruders, The Day After, Poltergeist all succeeded in giving me nightmares...now that I really think about I think Maximilian from The Black Hole (1979) was yet another one who haunted my dreams. Also recall Big Trouble in Little China (1986) also managed to scare me silly as a kid too...

The Thing from Another World scared me when I first watched it and I've always found the orchestral transition from RKO & Winchester Pictures Corporation to the tittle & opening credits disturbing. I watched this film on TCM with my daughter when she was 10 years old and this part of the film and the scene where they figure out they've got a flying saucer gave her nightmares for almost a week, I believe it's the music that enhances the scare factor.

The Little Shop of Horrors (80's version)

Saw it on TV in 1st or 2nd grade & it instilled a great fear of plants in me. I could not go near bushes for weeks.

Black Sabbath(1963) not the whole film, but the "A DROP OF WATER" segment really terrified me as a kid for years, because of this:
