65. The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

I'd really sort of prefer only one LOTR movie on the list to make room for more non-franchise movies, but if there are going to be three Avengers movies (yuck) and two Star Wars movies on the list, then I think this whole trilogy belongs.

Most people rate Peter Jackson's movies much higher than I do. Some of the things he did to those stories are really terrible.

If Jackson had stayed true to the book, then there would have had to have been a proper fourth movie in order to give us the real ending when Saruman’s remnant armies invade The Shire. While I would have preferred this, most regular moviegoers probably wouldn’t have, since popular opinions tend to prefer their movie franchises wrapped in neat little trilogies and prepackaged conveniences.
