Saw The Hurt Locker the other day and kept wondering why on Lost they never mentioned Kate being married to this guy. Big detail to leave out of the flashbacks.

I like films like this which make history: i.e. Kathryn Bigelow becoming the first woman to win a Directing Oscar.  Smile

I've often thought that actors/actresses should have to fit all of their roles into a single canon. I'd love to see Patrick Stewart explaining how Captain Picard had once been a medieval knight (Excalibur).

It's OK. Reminds me of movies like Jarhead, Sniper, and The Kingdom. Related to them might be Blackhawk Down and even Three Kings.

But like these movies it's superficial, dealing with personal characterization and using the exotic setting mostly as a backdrop.

Indeed. The set pieces are great, but as a message "pity about your country, but the war gave us such a great rush" lacks depth.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Three Kings was ridiculous to the point of campiness. Intentional or not I have no idea.

I was reminded of them because on different levels they portrayed the military in a cynical light, with Three Kings employing black comedy.

I don't think we need to bring race into this discussion, ralfy. Just as "love is love" so comedy is comedy, and colorblind. Shame on you.

Surely you jest, but for those who don't know,

My favorite for this topic's Dr. Strangelove, but for various genres The Loved One.
