among them probably my favourite slasher of all time, THE MUTILATOR, and my least favourite slasher of all time, SPLATTER UNIVERSITY

incidentally I'm pretty sure THE MUTILATOR was made and opened in 1982. just didn't get vhs distribution until 84

This is what wiki has to say about the releases of The Mutilator:

By October 5, 1984 the title had changed to The Mutilator, opening under that title in Newport News, Virginia. In January 1985, the film opened in New York City, but when the distributor tried to book screenings in middle American theaters, they were unable to secure advertising or screenings because it did not have an R-rating. At this point, Cooper relented and edited the film to the MPAA's specifications. It was re-released theatrically later in the year in Los Angeles on September 27, 1985.

Bad movie trivia



Crown International's Weekend Pass (1984) made $21,058,000 at the box office back in the day. That would be $61,697,445 in today's money. It has a very low rating at IMDb, and only 500 votes. A vintage box office hit nobody cares about, it seems.

Only 9 w/ clarity... a bunch more I may've watched as a kid though have only faint or no recollections of. I do enjoy RATS, MUTANT, and NINJA III - the first and third as bad movies. MUTANT is pretty decent!

ah cool... in the bonus documentary on the bluray release there's an image of a cinema board with it playing on a double bill with PIECES (which was released to cinema in 82 afaik). maybe they were showing PIECES in 84 for some reason

edit - apparently PIECES went to cinema in US in Oct '83, so maybe was still playing by the following January

I know this is very geeky attention to detail but I've always wondered, because to me MUTILATOR has the look and feel of a 1981 or 1982 slasher.

According to IMDb The Mutilator was filmed in May 1983. I would have loved to see that Pieces and The Mutilator double feature at the theater. What an awesome pairing!
