That was my impression of the little of it I saw. Like an '80s music video combined with a bad military recruitment film.

I never saw the first one. Couldn't stand the rah-rah air force marketing. Saw the second one and was not very impressed.

If it helps reinforce your instincts - I think MAVERICK is an improvement on the original! Not to say it's "impressive" - just less unimpressive!
