We all know which movie this comes from:

I know I can make it on my own if I try, but I'm searching for the Great Heart
To stand me by, underneath the African sky
A Great Heart to stand me by.

Without him Beetlejuice wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.

Civil rights activists are a dime a hundred, heck even I'm a member of the club, but there was only one Beetlejuice, and he was lucky to be part of such greatness. It's how he'll be remembered. Just imagine if one-tenth of the energy put into civil rights went into civil responsibilities. Now that'd be a legacy.

f**k Beetlejuice.  Hatred
Some stupid f**king movie is more important than what Harry Belafonte did as a civil rights advocate, at a time blacks couldn't even sit in a f**king diner down south?
Sweety, I love you, but in this case you're a jackass.

Why can't he be remembered for many things? I'm sure he was proud of his music, and if you had asked him what he was, I bet "musician" was the first thing he'd have said. So me recalling his contribution to a movie isn't an invalid remembrance, especially here. He was also a father, a fisherman, the author of PSAs about the dangers of spiders, and a remarkable promoter of bananas. Let's remember the whole man.

But saying a man who devoted much of his life to the civil rights, and men like him are "a dime a dozen" is a jack ass statement.

Bluesad  I wish we had a nauseated face.  These remarks are head-shaking.  Do you not understand the enormous efforts by Civil Rights workers?
HARRY BELAFONTE was a role model in the era of Emmett Till, voter suppression, and fire bombings.  Your cushioned seat must be comfy.

HARRY BELAFONTE was a huge star in the wake of the now forgotten Calypso craze.  And quickly had a movie career.  I don't think some younger Americans can appreciate what he meant over generations.  He was a Black man who avoided stereotype and routine subversion just for his prominence.  He was a role model for people all over the world.

Here's a thread that could be construed as an "attack".  I believe I unintentionally exacerbated angry feelings when I started a thread shortly after this obit about BEETLEJUICE
