Actually, I thought it was quite good considering the low budget. But when it comes to a children's flick, the budget does not really matter because it's a CHILDREN'S FILM! Kids won't know if the flick cost a $300 million or 10 cents. JIMMY THE BOY WONDER, a 1966 film from Herschell Gordon Lewis, is loaded with ridiculous fun. And it's meant to.
The plot: Jimmy Jaye (Dennis Jones, who also has a bit part in H.G. Lewis' 1968 flick JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT) wishes time would stop. Well, some wacko magician Mr. Fig just does that and time stops. So, it's up to Jimmy and Aurora (Nancy Jo Berg) to restore time before Mr. Fig stops them. Add a land that's in slow motion, Indians that are green colored, and an Italian cartoon that has the dubbing out of synch and you have yourself a pretty decent children's film. At H.G. Lewis' website, I asked him about the film and all he had to say was that he made JIMMY THE BOY WONDER for producer Hal Berg so he could showcase his wife Nancy as an actress. And you know, she did a pretty decent job.
Yes, I might be praising JIMMY THE BOY WONDER as if it were GONE WITH THE WIND. But it was a fun kids flick that I really got into. Most critics out there criticise this film as nothing but garbage and too childish (yeah, like most childrens films are not childish). They act like Disney has never produced garbage before (I guess they haven't seen THE COUNRTY BEARS yet).
Still, JIMMY THE BOY WONDER is pure fun and entertainment. BNuff' said.
