I saw a trailer for this on the JIN-ROH DVD the other day, and watched it about five times in a row. Has anybody seen it, is it any good, worth buying? That's was the first trailer I've seen in a long time that made me rub my hands together with glee and laugh like Invader ZIM while saying "I must see that!"

The only other film of his I've seen so far was AUDITION, which I liked (although I'll never look at beautiful Asian women or piano wire the same way again), but knew I didn't want to own.

DEAD OR ALIVE looked more gonzo in style and tone. So is it worth it?

I'm in the process of watching it right now.  It's a  good crime picture, but so far it hasn't been groundbreaking.   But if you're a fan of Yakuza pictures like me, you'll like it.

Takeshi Miike is one of the most interesting filmmakers out there right now.  I saw his newest, The Happiness of the Katakuris, while on vacation and it's one of the craziest things I've ever seen.  It's a musical!
This family opens a bed and breakfast only to find that their guests keep turning up dead, and they sing songs about it!  It also has some really warped claymation.

Dead or Alive is classic Miike.  It's actually a nice police/yakuza story that could be considered somewhat like the kind (Beat) Takeshi Kitano would make.  But Miike loves to pull the rug out from the viewer.  Recommended if you like offbeat cinema.
