Reading the discussion about remakes reminded me of an idea I had. It would probably never happen, but I think it would be an interesting experiment.

Give two different filmmakers the exact same script and the exact same budget, then give them the freedom to make the movie any way they want with the only rules being that they can't make any major changes to the script and that they have to stay within the budget.

It would fascinating to see how similar or different the movies turned out considering that they would have exactly the same technology available to them (unlike a remake that is made 20+ years after the original), and be based on the same script. Would they look mostly the same or would they be completely different in style and atmosphere?

 What do you think?

We'd get "The Four Horsemen" vs. "Mechanix" for the metal crowd.

For those not in the know...
While Megadeth lead guitarist/frontman Dave Mustaine was still the lead guitarist for Metallica, he wrote the music to "The Four Horsemen," all but the extremely-slow breakdown (a Metallica trademark, FYI), and upon being kicked out of Metallica in '83 for being a prick when he was drunk (and he was drunk a whole lot) and being replaced by Kirk Hammett, Mustaine formed Megadeth. On Megadeth's first album, Killing Is Our Business...And Business Is Good!, he re-wrote the lyrics to "Mechanix" to be about sex and sped the music up slightly. Basically, unless you're familiar with both bands, you won't really know the difference in the songs.

That would be a very interesting idea. I wouldn't be surprised if one day for some form of school project that occurs.

THIS I COMMAND!
